Joy To The World ‘Really’

Luke 2:4-18

Three Main Points Concerning The Shepherds:

I. The Shepherds Weren’t Joyful

A. Shepherds were hard workers. – L v. 8, 9

B. Shepherds missed a lot of worship.

C. An Angel of The Lord frightened them – L v. 9

II. The Shepherds Heard The Good News – L v. 10, 11

A. The Angel comforted Them – L v. 10a

B. The Good News was for everyone. – L v. 10

John 15:11

                     Jesus said, “ these things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

C. The Messiah was born. - L v. 11

Psalms 88:1

                        O Lord, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before you.

John 1:29

                    John the Baptist said seeing Jesus “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

D. The Messiah is the Lord God. – L v. 11

III. The Shepherds Learned To Find Christ - L – v. 12- 18

A. They received a sign. – L v. 12

B. They saw and heard angels praising God. – L - v. 13, 14

C. They searched for messiah. – L v. 15, 16  “found” means found after a search.

D. They shared the truth concerning Jesus. – L v. 17, 18

Conclusion:

Four Points of Interest

1. Jesus Christ provides the opportunity to possess great joy

John 15:11

                      Jesus said, “ these things I have spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

2. Jesus Christ shed His blood for ALL our sins

John 1:29

                       John the Baptist said seeing Jesus “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

3. Praising God for providing Jesus Christ as our _sacrifice_ brings great joy.

4. Faith in Christ causes us to share Him with others.   – L v. 17, 18
