Romans 10:14

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Question:  Where is God’s Spirit asking you to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

I. The Leading Of God’s Spirit.  - L v. 4

A) Barnabas and Saul were led to Seleucia. - L v. 4

Question: Why is being led by the Spirit so important?

Answer:

    1) You know you’re a son of  God.

    2) You know He is in you. - L v. John 14: 16,17

        Romans 8:14

            For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

    3) You know He is guiding you. - L v. John 16:13

    4) You know He is teaching and reminding you. -  L v. John 14:26

B) Barnabas and Saul sailed to Cyprus.

II. The Word Of God was preached. - L v.  5, 6

“Salamis” was Cyprus’ largest city.

A) Barnabas and Saul proclaimed God’s Word.- L v. 5

B)  New converts needed to be disciplined. - L v. 5

Matthew 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Question: What is making disciples all about?

Answer: It is telling and showing people to live like Jesus lived.​

Luke 19:10

for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

C) John Mark came as an assistant. -  L v. 5

D) They traveled to Paphos. - L v. 6

“Paphos” was the capital of Cyprus.

E) They met a false prophet. - L v. 6

“Bar-Jesus” means son of salvation.- L John 8:44

The Problem:  A false prophet will give false hope.

Matthew 7:15

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 

B) He was seeking truth.

Lesson: There are always people who want to hear the Word of God.

III. The Proconsul Of Cyprus Wanted To Hear God’s Word. -  L v. 7

A) Sergius Paulus was intelligent. -  L v. 7

IV.  The Pronouncement Of Judgment. - L v. 8-11

A) Elymas tries to stop the Governor from hearing. - L v. 8

B) Saul’s reaction to Elymas’ attack. - L v. 9, 10

C)  The Lord judges Elymas. - L v. 11

V. The Governor Is Saved. -  L v. 12

A) He heard Saul tell of the Lord’s judgment. - L v. 12

B) The teaching of the Lord Jesus astonished him. -  L v. 13

IV. John Mark Goes Back Home.-  L v. 13  

Conclusion:

Four Points Of Interest

1)  The Holy Spirit must guide you to have a successful ministry. – L v. 4, 9

2)  Satan will always have his liars to challenge us. – L v. 8

3)  Don’t be afraid to expose false teachers. – L v. 10

4)  Ministry brings both joys and disappointments. – L v. 12, 13
