Introduction:

Acts 4:1-22

The First Persecution of the Church

Q: What would you do if somone told you not to talk about the resurrection of Jesus Christ?

Seven Facts About Today's Message:

I. Peter and John Were Arrested - L~v.14

A. The authorities didn't like the message - L~v.1-3

B. The authorities were going to interrogate these men - L~v.3

C. The authorities couldn't stop Christ's power - L~v.4

II. Jesus was Credited for the Changed life - L~v.5-10

A. The Sanhedrin held court - L~v.5-7

B. The Holy Spirit had Peter and John prepared - L~v.8-10

C. Peter points to Jesus' power - L~v.10

1) Jesus made this man whole

2) It was Jesus whom the authorities crucified

3) God reised Jesus from His grave

III. Jesus Christ Provides Salvation - L~v.11,12

A. Jesus is the cornerstone of faith - L~v.11

"Cornerstone" is a stone laid to give strength to two walls it supports

B. Jesus Christ alone saves - L~v.12

"Saved" (Greek Word SoZo) means spiritual life.

I Corinthians 3:11

                                   "For not other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

IV. Peter and John Showed Boldness - L~v.13,14

A. They had no fear - L~v.13

B. The healed man stood by Peter and John - L~v.14

I Corinthians 1:27

                                  "But has chosen the foolish things of this world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things  which are mighty."

V. The Religious Leaders Threatened Peter and John - L~v.15-18

A. They knew a mircle had taken place - L~v.15,16

B. They told Peter and John not to talk about Jesus - L~v.17,18

VI. Peter and John Wouldn't Compromise - L~v.19-20

A. God is to be obeyed fisrt - L~v.19

Romans 13:1

                           "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God."

Matthew 22:21

                              Jesus said, :Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's."

VII. The Crowd Was Glorifying God - L~v.21,22

Conclusion:

Four Points of Interest:

1. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ must be taught boldly - L~v.1,2

2. Only Jesus can save us from our sins - L~v.10-12 / John 14:6

3. If you have God's Spirit in your life, you dont's have to be highly educated to share the Gospel - L~v.8,13

4. True believers in Christ must share the Gospel of Jesus Christ - L~v.18-20

Matthew 10:32

                                "Therefore whoever confesses me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in Heaven.
