Question: Where is your heart?

                        “Koinonia” is a Greek word for fellowship.

Three Aspects of Fellowship:

1. Participation

2. Contribution

3. Generosity

Philippians 4:15

“…When I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.”

Hebrews 13:16

“But do not forget to do good  and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

Seven Reasons God Wants Us   To Be Generous:

I. Generosity Creates Fellowship. - L - II Corinthians 9:11,12

A. It draws people closer.

B. What you invest in attracts you. – L- Matthew 6:21

Acts 4:32

“Now those who believed were   of one heart and one soul…they had all things in common.”

Question: Why does God want you to learn to be a giver?

Answer: Because God is a giver.

II. Generosity Defeats Materialism. – L- Matthew 6:24

A. The antidote for Materialism: Generosity.

B. Generosity makes God Number 1. – L- Matthew 6:24c

III. Generosity Strengthens My Faith. – L- II Corinthians 9:13

A. God is a generous God.

B. God makes promises. - L – II Corinthians 9:6; L – II Corinthians 9:7,8

Fact: Giving of your time, energy and money is an acid test for your faith.

IV. Generosity is an Investment for Eternity.

Luke 16:9

Jesus said, “And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when  you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home.”

A. You can’t take money to heaven.

B. Giving to others is investing in heaven. – L- Matthew 6:19-21

I Timothy 6:18,19

“Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”

Conclusion:

Question: What happens when you are generous?

Answer: 1) Your heart grows for God. – L – Matthew 6:21

Answer: 2) You break the grip of materialism – L- Matthew 6:24

Answer: 3) You become more like Christ.

John 15:13

“Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Answer: 4) You are making an investment in heaven – L- Matthew 6:19,20

III. Generosity Strengthens My Faith. – L- II Corinthians 9:13
